Strategies for Challenging Visits
As time passes, you may notice changes in your loved one. This may include a decline in their physical health, such as losses in vision, hearing and mobility, or in their cognitive health due to dementia. Remember, you are not alone on this journey. Please reach out to the team at your community for support as needed. You may also consider the following:
- Opt for shorter and more frequent visits to improve engagement.
- Your loved one may display a range of emotions. Acknowledging these feelings is important.
- Be mindful of the best time to visit, as your loved one may have a time of day when they are at their best.
- Establishing consistent routines can be beneficial.
- Minimize distractions by turning off music and TV, and finding a quiet space.
- Communicate through sense, like sight or touch, if your loved one is unable to speak verbally.
- Stay positive even if your visit doesn’t go as planned.
- Speak with one of our team members for personalized strategies to enhance your visit.
